The night, handmaiden of sleep and dream, accomplice of desire, longing and melancholy.
As the daylight fades and the shadows deepen, the world disappears under the cloak of the night. All the exacting details become trivial and vanish within its dark folds. Only what the night cannot erase from the imagination remains.
The time when the moon and the stars are out, bring out the mixed feelings of inner tranquility, intense excitement and haunting fear at the same time. All of which is a part of the surreal experience of walking in the stillness of the night.
There is something in the night’s peace and quiet that draws me out. I like to be alone at such time, when all the noises of the day fade away, when the world forgets about the dusk and the dawn is not even a promise yet. I love to let go of the outside world and wander along the twilight paths in solitude, while watching the silent landscapes unfold in the darkness.

Well, it’s a marvellous night for a moon dance
With the stars up above in your eyes
A fantabulous night to make romance
Beneath the cover of October skies
And all the leaves on the trees are falling
To the sound of the breezes that blow
You know I’m trying’ to please to the calling
Of your heartstrings that play soft and low
You know the night’s magic seems to whisper and hush
You know the soft moonlight seems to shine in your blush…
Van Morrison

I often think that the night is more alive and more richly coloured than the day.
Vincent Van Gogh

Night is a dead monotonous period under a roof; but in the open world it passes lightly, with its stars and dews and perfumes, and the hours are marked by changes in the face of Nature. What seems a kind of temporal death to people choked between walls and curtains, is only a light and living slumber to the man who sleeps afield.
Robert Louis Stevenson

When the night falls, quietly I’ll slip away –
Not to wake you from your deepest dream.
To lose myself in the stillness of the lake
Softly lit by the moon’s luminous beam.
Alone I’ll wander through the solitary paths of light
And in the sudden wake of the trembling dew,
I’ll listen to the moonlit silence of the night
With one secret wish – in your dream, you hear it too.
Vanda Ralevska

At other times, at the edge of a wood, especially at dusk, the trees themselves would assume strange shapes: sometimes they were arms rising heavenwards, or else the trunk would twist and turn like a body being bent by the wind.
Gustave Flaubert
