Winter Dawn

As darkness fades, the glowing orb
paints vivid pink and apricot
across the snow.
I stand in awe.
Yet silently a part of me
cries to the world:
"How can you sleep?
Awake and see this fairyland,
this special gift.
The miracle will soon be gone,
the passing of another dawn
as you sleep on."

Sibyl McEwan Kellman

It never ceases to amaze me how each dawn is different, and how beautiful are the hours just before the sun rises. It could be overcast, or clear skies, it could even be raining, but dawn never disappoints. Some are stunning, some very nice and some even ordinary, but to witness this magical hour is always worth getting up for. There is so much beauty in each of them.

I spent two early mornings in Bushy Park, which is just on our doorstep. It is one of very few places I can go to these days due to the current restrictions. It is not one of those honey pot spots, but I still feel lucky that we live close by. The two mornings couldn't be any more different. However, they were beautiful in their own way. Even though the day turned out to be grey and mundane afterwards.

Wishing you all that each dawn in New Year is equally as beautiful.

Is the moon tired? she looks so pale
Within her misty veil:
She scales the sky from east to west,
And takes no rest.

Before the coming of the night
The moon shows papery white;
Before the dawning of the day
She fades away.

  1. Thank you! The memories always make the difference. I had planned to visit London last year…. Somehow I doubt things will change for the better fast enough this year.

    1. Unfortunately I think you are right, Alex. This year is still going to be tough. But I believe we are getting there and next year will be different. If and when you come to London and would like to meet in person, please let me know. It would be wonderful to meet up. I think we do have a lot in common.
Take care and keep safe and healthy,

  2. You captured that special winter morning mood beautifully with these images! I went on a walk in Bush Park about 15 years ago with a friend who has since died. Thanks for making me remember :)

    1. Dear Alex,
Thank you so much for your kind words. I am so sorry to hear about your friend. I hope that the nice memories you have make it more bearable. It is a beautiful place to have associated with someone special. Hope that one day you will re-visit it.
